About > Writer

Jessica E. discovered that she has to write while being alone within herself. Walking on sidewalks, riding the subway, sitting in libraries, cafés or parks would prompt the little voice in her head to articulate fully formed, eloquent sentences insisting to be written down. “It’s an obligation to that voice, to communicate the observations I make about my life and the life happening around me. Inspiration comes unexpectedly, but when it comes in the form of words, it wants to be recorded,” she says. On numerous occasions, she’d find herself writing on the backs of receipts, napkins, post-it notes, news-papers…whatever was lying around and within reaching distance at the moment. “Honestly, sometimes, it feels like I’m just taking dictation,” she says.

Whenever Jessica E. feels the urge to write, she chooses fiction. She brings a childlike sensibility to her short stories, which are intended for children. Other works such as poetry, or the stories she has not yet completed, reflect more mature themes that touch upon nature, life, death and everlasting love, conveying a sometimes darker, ethereal and transcendent experience.

“Humans are a complex species. It doesn’t seem fair to limit ourselves to one role. To be labeled or known as one thing. I reject the idea. I believe in the strength of my name and the right to live out my dreams.”- Jessica E. Paquette.
